We started thinking about a device to help in fly tippin, as we are Dosophila researchers and we spend a lot of time doing this laborious task
We joint a team of engineers and came up with a simple, yet ingenious device that allows fast transfer of flies to fresh media.
This new way of tipping your flies allows you to tip 10 vials in seconds. It is too cotton free, what saves lots of money.
We began considering a device to assist with fly tipping, as we are Drosophila researchers who often perform this tedious task. We collaborated with a group of engineers and devised a straightforward plastic device that enables. Efficient transfer of flies to fresh media. Now we can transfer 10 vials in the time it takes to transfer 1.
The Drosoflipper device is designed to keep vials containing
flies securely attached. Being cotton-free, it saves a
significant amount of money and produces fewer residues.
Additionally, there is a specific material used in its
construction. Place a filter at the top of each vial with 30µm
holes, ten times smaller than those for larvae and mites. This
filter is efficient for long-term use, up to three months, for
instance. The item is reusable and can be easily cleaned with
water and a soft brush, and it can even be washed in a
dishwasher.
Using the Drosoflipper is a straightforward process. Add vials
containing fresh food to the upper slot of the Drosoflipper,
ensuring they click into place. Prepare the bypass, then tap
the Drosoflipper down to move the flies to the bottom of the
vials. Pass the bypass through, pushing out the filter, and
flip the Drosoflipper. This ensures that the flies will land
on fresh food. Afterward, slide the filter back in while
pushing out the bypass. Lastly, remove the old
vials to complete the process.
Drosoflipper is available in four colours, blue, green, red and yellow.
